RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) – This year’s Cordova Community Christmas Tree Lighting is set to take place 4 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30.

The event is full of family-friendly activities, including hayrides, food trucks, a fireworks show, pictures with Santa Claus and more.

"This is the 26th annual Cordova Community Christmas Tree Lighting, one of our longest and most treasured community events,” said Cordova Community Council executive director Shelly Blanchard. “It is a chance to shake off the turkey hangover and kick off the holidays with neighbors and friends.”

According to Blanchard, this year’s tree is 35 feet tall and topped with a giant snowflake.

“We think it is beautiful and you will too,” Blanchard said.

New to the event this year are 8-foot-tall giant polar bears Larry and Barry. The bears will dance around, play the drums and are accompanied by Mariel, the most magical elf ever, according to Blanchard.

“And speaking of magic, we can promise it will snow, many times,” Blanchard said.

At the popular event, 40-plus exhibitors will represent many local businesses and organizations, all turning out with fun activities to do, treats and more.  The United Methodist Church will present a Live Nativity, its annual gift to the community.

Hayrides, food trucks, the Sacramento Valley Live Steamers mini train rides and a visit with Santa make it a party. The fun starts at 4 p.m. and culminates with the tree lighting at 7 p.m. sharp Nov. 30, topped off with fireworks.  The honor of pressing the button that lights the tree belongs to the 2025 Rancho Cordovan of the Year, Kevin Sims.

There will also be a donation opportunity for attendees to “Stuff the Squad Car” by bringing a new, unwrapped gift for children in need.

The Christmas Tree lighting will take place Nov. 30 at Village Green Park, 3141 Bridgeway Drive. Neighborhood parking is free but will fill up fast, so plan accordingly. The event is free entry. Food trucks will be on site at the event.
