RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - “Give me your hands if we be friends and Robin shall make amends.” – William Shakespeare.

The Cordova Accelerated Performing Arts (CAPA) production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream delivered the laughs in three performances this past weekend. Young actors from the Rancho Cordova community presented Shakespeare’s comedy classic to enthusiastic audiences.

Nearly as soon as it had begun it came to an end, a magical end, but an end nonetheless for this year. The team of teachers, high school and college students, and theatre professionals worked hard from June 10 to July 21 to learn lines, build the set, assemble costumes and rehearse together. The first year of the summer program was largely a success with 20 young adults participating and a little over 300 fans enjoying the show.

The program is funded by the City of Rancho Cordova Community Enhancement Fund with in kind support from the Cordova Recreation & Park District and the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. Sponsorships from the Rancho Cordova City Councilmembers, Sacramento County Supervisor Don Nottoli, and Golden State Water also helped ensure the performances would be free to the community.

For some in the audience, it was their first time at the Cordova High Performing Arts Center, built in 2016 with school bond funding, approved by Rancho Cordova residents. This is the community’s theatre and the community’s program.

The City of Rancho Cordova has approved a second year of funding for the CAPA program. Watch for more information about next summer’s show. Help CAPA grow the program for more young adults, bigger community audiences and even more fun ahead!
